Fix Guide: Tahoe Safari "Force Quit" on Exit
Symptom: Every time you try to quit Safari on macOS Tahoe, it hangs with a spinning beachball, requiring you to use Force Quit (Cmd+Option+Esc).
Why this happens
This is usually caused by a "zombie" extension or a Safari Tab Group that is failing to sync with iCloud, preventing the process from closing gracefully.
Recommended Troubleshooting Tool
Before proceeding with manual fixes, we recommend using CleanMyMac X. Excellent for clearing Safari caches, bloated databases, and stuck background processes.

Fix 1: Reset Tab Group Sync
- Open Safari.
- Click the Sidebar icon.
- Right-click on your Tab Groups and ensure they are not "stuck" with a sync icon.
- Try moving all tabs to a local window and deleting the Tab Group temporarily.
Fix 2: Clean the Saved State
- Quit Safari (Force Quit if needed).
- Open Terminal.
- Run:
rm -rf ~/Library/Saved\ Application\ State/com.apple.Safari.savedState
- Relaunch Safari.
Recommended Tool: CleanMyMac X
Safari hangs are often caused by bloated local databases. Use the Privacy module in CleanMyMac X to clear out old browsing history and "stuck" cookies that Safari is struggling to process on exit.
