The Symptom

Your Mac doesn't show up in the Airdrop menu on other devices, or the "Waiting..." status never completes.

The Fix

  1. Restart the Sharing Stack
sudo pkill sharingd
  1. Reset Bluetooth Module
sudo pkill bluetoothd
  1. Clear Airdrop Discovery Cache
rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.sharingd.plist

Pro Tip

Ensure "Allow me to be discovered by" is set to Everyone temporarily. Also, disable the macOS Firewall in System Settings > Network as it can block the ad-hoc connection.
