The Symptom

The AirPlay icon doesn't show your devices, or it says "Connecting..." indefinitely before failing.

The Fix

  1. Restart the AirPlay Receiver Daemon

Open Terminal and force the AirPlay process to reload:

killall AirPlayXPCHelper
  1. Check "AirPlay Receiver" Settings

Go to System Settings > General > AirPlay & Handoff.

Ensure "AirPlay Receiver" is toggled ON. Set "Allow AirPlay For" to "Anyone on the Same Network."

  1. Flush the Discovery Cache

If devices aren't appearing, reset the mDNSResponder:

sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder

Pro Tip

Ensure your Mac and the AirPlay device are on the same Wi-Fi frequency (e.g., both on 5GHz). Some routers don't "bridge" discovery between 2.4GHz and 5GHz correctly.
