How to Fix Universal Control Cursor lag on iPad in macOS Sequoia 15.x
Symptom: When using Universal Control to move your Mac's cursor to an iPad on Sequoia, the mouse movement feels "heavy" or "laggy," making precise clicking difficult.
Start with Fix 1: Lower the Mouse Polling Rate. If the issue persists after that, try Fix 2: Refresh the Sidecar/UC Connection. Full Terminal commands and step-by-step instructions are in each section below.
Why this happens
This lag is typically caused by Wi-Fi interference or a bottleneck in the UniversalControl.framework when it tries to sync the high-polling rate of a gaming mouse or high-DPI mouse with the iPad's display refresh rate.
Recommended Troubleshooting Tool
Before proceeding with manual fixes, we recommend using OnyX. The preferred tool for deep system maintenance and resetting the macOS Bluetooth stack.
Fix 1: Lower the Mouse Polling Rate
- If you are using a gaming mouse, open its configuration software (e.g., Logitech G Hub).
- Lower the Report Rate (Polling Rate) to 125Hz or 250Hz.
- High polling rates (1000Hz+) often saturate the Bluetooth/Wi-Fi side-channel used by Universal Control.
Fix 2: Refresh the Sidecar/UC Connection
- Disconnect the iPad from Universal Control.
- In Terminal, run:
killall "Universal Control" - Reconnect the iPad from the Displays menu in System Settings.
Recommended Tool: CleanMyMac
Network interference and background process lag can ruin the Universal Control experience. Use CleanMyMac to identify and disable background apps that are hogging CPU or network bandwidth during your work session.
