Fix Photos "Curating" Stuck

If your Photos library is stuck on "Curating..." for days on macOS Tahoe, it's preventing Visual Intelligence from working.

Recommended Troubleshooting Tool

Before proceeding with manual fixes, we recommend using CleanMyMac X. Ideal for scanning disks for errors and clearing hidden system junk.

The Symptom

The bottom of the "Library" or "Days" view shows "Curating Library..." with a progress bar that never moves.

The Fix

  1. Force Restart the Photo Analysis Daemon

The background process mediaanalysisd is responsible for curation.

Open Terminal and run:

killall mediaanalysisd photoanalysisd
  1. Keep the Mac Connected to Power

macOS only performs deep curation when the Mac is plugged into power and the screen is OFF. Leave your Mac on the charger overnight and disable "Put hard disks to sleep" in Battery settings.

  1. Repair the Photos Library

If the database is corrupted, curation will never finish.

Close Photos.** Hold down **Command + Option** and click the Photos app icon to launch it. Click **"Repair."

Pro Tip

Check for "Unsupported" files. Go to the "Unable to Upload" smart album. Deleting corrupted or unsupported videos often unblocks the curation engine.
