Fix Guide: Tahoe Safari "Force Quit" Required Regularly

Symptom: Safari on macOS Tahoe becomes unresponsive (spinning beachball) several times a day, requiring a "Force Quit" to resume browsing.

Why this happens

The new "Intelligent Search" features in Tahoe occasionally cause a deadlock in the SafariSafariSearch process when trying to index large pages or pages with heavy JavaScript.

Recommended Troubleshooting Tool

Before proceeding with manual fixes, we recommend using CleanMyMac X. Excellent for clearing Safari caches, bloated databases, and stuck background processes.

Fix 1: Clear Safari History & Data

  1. Go to Safari > Clear History...
  2. Select "All History" and click Clear History.
  3. This forces the search index to rebuild, often clearing the deadlock.

Fix 2: Disable Extension Sync

If you have multiple Macs, extension sync can cause Safari to hang while validating signatures.

  1. Go to Safari > Settings > Extensions.
  2. Uncheck Share across devices.
  3. Restart Safari.

Recommended Tool: CleanMyMac

If Safari continues to freeze, use CleanMyMac to "Reset" Safari to its factory state without losing your bookmarks, which removes corrupted preference files that cause hangs.
