Verified for macOS Tahoe 26.2

Fix Guide: "Developer Cannot Be Verified" on macOS Tahoe

Symptom: You try to open an app downloaded from the web, but macOS Tahoe blocks it with an error saying "Apple cannot check it for malicious software" or "Developer cannot be verified."

Why this happens

Gatekeeper in macOS Tahoe (version 26.x) has removed the "Allow apps from anywhere" toggle by default and is more aggressive about non-notarized applications.

Recommended Troubleshooting Tool

Before proceeding with manual fixes, we recommend using CleanMyMac X. Quickly identify high CPU apps and optimize system memory with one click.

Fix 1: The Right-Click Shortcut (Free)

  1. Locate the app in your Applications folder.
  2. Right-click (or Control-click) the app icon.
  3. Select Open from the menu.
  4. A new dialog will appear with an Open button. Click it to whitelist the app permanently.

Fix 2: Re-enable "Anywhere" via Terminal

If you have many legacy apps to open:

  1. Open Terminal.
  2. Type sudo spctl --master-disable and press Enter.
  3. Enter your password.
  4. Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security. You will now see the "Anywhere" option under "Allow apps downloaded from."

Recommended Tool: CleanMyMac

Unverified apps often leave behind "leftover" files if they fail to install correctly.

- Download CleanMyMac to use the Uninstaller tool, ensuring that failed or unverified app attempts don't clutter your system library.
