Fix Guide: Sequoia "Private Relay" Not Available
Symptom: You receive a notification that "iCloud Private Relay is unavailable on this network" in macOS Sequoia, even though your internet connection is working fine.
Why this happens
Sequoia's networking stack is more sensitive to "DNS Hijacking" by routers. If your router uses its own DNS (like many ISP routers) or a "Family Shield" filter, Sequoia disables Private Relay to prevent a data leak.
Recommended Troubleshooting Tool
Before proceeding with manual fixes, we recommend using CleanMyMac X. Excellent for clearing Safari caches, bloated databases, and stuck background processes.

Fix 1: Use Standard DNS
- Go to System Settings > Wi-Fi > Details > DNS.
- Remove any custom IP addresses.
- Add
1.1.1.1(Cloudflare) or8.8.8.8(Google). - Turning off the ISP's restrictive DNS often lets Private Relay connect immediately.
Fix 2: Limit IP Address Tracking
- In the Wi-Fi Details menu.
- Ensure "Limit IP Address Tracking" is toggled ON.
- If it was already on, toggle it OFF and back ON to reset the relay token.
Recommended Tool: ClearVPN
If Private Relay is blocked by your network provider or ISP:
- Use ClearVPN to get a system-wide encrypted tunnel. Unlike Private Relay, which only works in Safari, ClearVPN protects all your apps on macOS Sequoia.
