Fix Guide: Sequoia "System Settings" Search Broken
Symptom: You type a setting name into the search bar in Sequoia's System Settings (e.g., "Wallpapers"), but it returns "No Results," or the results are irrelevant to your search query.
Why this happens
The search index for System Settings is managed by a specific helper in the com.apple.systempreferences bundle. If the preference cache is corrupted during a Sequoia update, the search indexing fails to map keywords to panes.
Recommended Troubleshooting Tool
Before proceeding with manual fixes, we recommend using CleanMyMac X. Quickly identify high CPU apps and optimize system memory with one click.

Fix 1: Delete the Preference Cache
- Open Terminal.
- Run the following command:
rm -rf ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.systempreferences
- Quit and reopen System Settings.
Fix 2: Force a System-Wide Spotlight Re-index
Since Settings search is partially powered by Spotlight:
- Go to System Settings > Siri & Spotlight > Spotlight Privacy.
- Add your "Macintosh HD" to the list, wait 10 seconds, then remove it.
- This forces the system to re-index all metadata, including settings panes.
Recommended Tool: CleanMyMac
Index corruption is a common macOS issue. Use CleanMyMac to "Repair Disk Permissions" and "Speed Up Mail/Spotlight," which often resolves deep-seated search index issues in System Settings.
