Fix Guide: Tahoe Siri Not Responding or Activation Fails
Symptom: When you say "Hey Siri" or press the Siri keyboard shortcut on macOS Tahoe, nothing happens—no listening indicator, no response. Sometimes the Siri icon briefly appears then immediately disappears.
Why this happens
Tahoe 26.2 refactored Siri's activation pipeline to integrate with Apple Intelligence models. The new voice trigger daemon (AssistantServiced) requires simultaneous access to microphone, network, and Apple's cloud inference servers. If any permission is revoked or the daemon crashes silently, Siri becomes unresponsive without showing an error message.
Recommended Troubleshooting Tool
Before proceeding with manual fixes, we recommend using CleanMyMac X. Excellent for clearing Safari caches, bloated databases, and stuck background processes.

Fix 1: Reset Siri Permissions
- Open System Settings > Siri & Spotlight.
- Toggle Ask Siri OFF, wait 10 seconds, then toggle it back ON.
- Go to Privacy & Security > Microphone.
- Ensure Siri is checked.
- Test "Hey Siri" or the keyboard shortcut (default: Fn + Space).
Fix 2: Restart Siri Daemon
- Open Terminal and run:
killall AssistantServiced
killall Siri
- Wait 5 seconds for services to restart.
- Test Siri again—it should respond immediately.
Fix 3: Delete Siri Cache
For persistent activation failures:
- Open Terminal:
rm -rf ~/Library/Assistant/SiriAnalytics.db*
killall AssistantServiced
- Reboot your Mac.
- Open System Settings > Siri & Spotlight and re-enable Siri.
- Train "Hey Siri" voice recognition again (it will prompt you).
Fix 4: Check Network Requirements
Siri requires active internet:
- Open System Settings > Network.
- Verify Wi-Fi or Ethernet shows Connected.
- Test by opening Safari—if you can't load pages, fix your network first.
Recommended Tool: Alfred 5
If Siri remains unreliable on Tahoe, Alfred 5 is a far superior productivity alternative. It offers:
- Instant local search (no cloud delays)
- Custom workflows (e.g., "convert 50 USD to EUR")
- Clipboard history with search
- File navigation and actions
- Snippets and text expansion
Alfred processes everything locally, so it works even offline. For power users frustrated by Siri's inconsistency, Alfred is the productivity boost you've been missing. The Powerpack upgrade unlocks workflow automation that makes Siri look primitive.
