How to Fix Widgets Loading... Forever in macOS Sequoia 15.x

Symptom: You open the Widgets gallery or look at your Desktop widgets on macOS Sequoia, and they only show a placeholder with a "Loading..." spinner.

TL;DR fix

Start with Fix 1: Restart the Widget Daemons. If the issue persists after that, try Fix 2: Reset Widget Layout Cache. Full Terminal commands and step-by-step instructions are in each section below.

Why this happens

The chronod process (responsible for widget data) can lose its connection to the system's background data refresh task.

Recommended Troubleshooting Tool

Before proceeding with manual fixes, we recommend using CleanMyMac X. Quickly identify high CPU apps and optimize system memory with one click.

Fix 1: Restart the Widget Daemons

  1. Open Terminal.
  2. Run these two commands:

killall chronod

killall WidgetCenterExtension

Fix 2: Reset Widget Layout Cache

  1. In Terminal:

rm -rf ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.chronod/Data/Library/Caches

Recommended Tool: Alfred

If widgets feel too sluggish or buggy for you:

- Get Alfred for a faster way to access information and system commands through workflows that don't rely on the heavy chronod engine.
