Fix Guide: Sequoia Widgets "Click to Setup" Fix

Symptom: Your macOS Sequoia widgets appear on the desktop but only show a "Click to Setup" or "Open App to Continue" message, even if the app is already open.

Why this happens

This is caused by a communication break between the chronod daemon (which handles widgets) and the actual application, often due to a sandbox permission hang.

Recommended Troubleshooting Tool

Before proceeding with manual fixes, we recommend using CleanMyMac X. Quickly identify high CPU apps and optimize system memory with one click.

Fix 1: Force Restart the Widget Daemon

  1. Open Terminal.
  2. Run the following command:
killall chronod && killall WidgetCenterExtension
  1. Wait 10 seconds. Your widgets will disappear and reappear. Click them again.

Fix 2: Reset Notification Center

  1. In Terminal, run:
defaults delete com.apple.notificationcenterui; killall NotificationCenter
  1. Note: This will reset your widget layout, but it clears the permission blocks that cause the "Click to Setup" loop.

Recommended Tool: WidgetWall

If you want widgets that actually work consistently without relying on the buggy native Sequoia system, WidgetWall lets you pin functional web and app widgets anywhere on your desktop.
