Fix Guide: Sequoia Widgets Not Loading or Blank

Symptom: Your desktop widgets or Notification Center widgets in macOS Sequoia appear as blank squares, or show a "Loading..." message that never resolves.

Why this happens

Sequoia 15.x fetches widget data through a process called chronod. If your Mac's location services or iCloud "Find My" tokens are out of sync, the widget sandboxes lose access to the internet for security reasons.

Recommended Troubleshooting Tool

Before proceeding with manual fixes, we recommend using CleanMyMac X. Quickly identify high CPU apps and optimize system memory with one click.

Fix 1: Kill the Widget Daemon

  1. Open Activity Monitor.
  2. Search for chronod.
  3. Select it and click the X to "Force Quit."
  4. The widgets will disappear for a second and then reload with fresh data.

Fix 2: Toggle "Use iPhone Widgets"

If you are using iOS widgets on your Mac:

  1. Go to System Settings > Desktop & Dock.
  2. Scroll to the Widgets section.
  3. Toggle "Use iPhone widgets" OFF and then back ON. This forces a re-sync between your iPhone and Sequoia.

Recommended Tool: CleanMyMac

Widget data is stored in the local cache folder which often gets bloated.

- Download CleanMyMac to clear out System Junk. This flushes the widget cache files, forcing chronod to download clean, updated data for all your desktop tools.
