How to Fix Apple Music “Library Loading” Spinner in macOS Sequoia 15.x
Symptom: Opening the Music app on macOS Sequoia (15.x) results in an endless spinning wheel or a "Loading Library…" message that never resolves. Affects M1, M2, M3, and Intel Macs running 15.0 through 15.4.
In the Music app, go to Account → Authorizations → Deauthorize This Computer, sign back in, then Account → Authorize This Computer. If the spinner persists, go to Music → Settings → General and toggle Sync Library off, wait 30 seconds, then back on. Still stuck? Quit Music and delete ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Music.
Why this happens
Sequoia's Music app uses a new caching system for Dolby Atmos and Lossless assets. If the local metadata file (Music Library.musiclibrary) is locked by another process or the cache is corrupted, the app hangs.
Fix 1: De-authorize and Re-authorize (Free)
Refresh your account's connection to the Apple Music servers.
- In Music App
- Go to Account > Authorizations > Deauthorize This Computer....
- Re-authorize
- Go back to Account > Authorizations > Authorize This Computer... and sign in.
Fix 2: Force Sync Library (Free)
Manually trigger a cloud refresh.
- Go to Settings
- In Music, go to Settings > General.
- Toggle Sync Library
- Uncheck Sync Library, click OK.
- Wait 30 seconds, then re-check it.
Fix 3: Delete the Music Cache
The nuclear option if the app remains frozen.
- Go to Folder
- In Finder, press
Cmd + Shift + Gand go to~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Music.
- Delete Contents
- Move all files inside this folder to the Trash.
- Restart Music
- The app will rebuild its local cache (this may take a few minutes for large libraries).
Recommended Tool: CleanMyMac X
When the Music app is stuck loading, it's usually a cache lock. Use CleanMyMac X’s System Junk module to clear the application caches safely. This removes the corrupted temporary files without affecting your actual music library.
